State Street Awarded Top Rankings by Institutional Investors in Annual Transition Management Survey

June 03, 2009

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- State Street Corporation (NYSE: STT), the world's leading provider of financial services to institutional investors, announced today that it received multiple "Best in Class" awards in PLANSPONSOR magazine's 2009 Transition Management Survey.

State Street was top-ranked in the Pre-Trade, Post-Trade, Organization & Support category as well as in Execution. It was also commended in Pre-Trade, Post-Trade, Organization & Support for non-US clients.

The PLANSPONSOR survey, which is distributed to institutional clients, consultants and investment managers on the portfolio transitions they awarded to managers in 2008, measures firms' perceptions of their transition managers' service quality across different categories in the transition management process.

"This was a stellar year for State Street in our survey," PLANSPONSOR's editors said in announcing the results. "Many respondents noted State Street's experience, expertise, access to liquidity and low cost as reasons for making it their de facto transition manager."

One respondent said the following of State Street's transition management business, "They have the right size and scale...and have operating practices rooted in ERISA mandates."

State Street pioneered the transition management process more than two decades ago. In 2008, State Street completed more than 1050 transitions globally comprising approximately $435 billion in total assets. With nearly 100 experienced professionals, State Street Global Markets' transition management team operates on a 24 hours a day basis from offices in London, Boston, Sydney, Toronto and Tokyo and provides services for more than 1,000 transition management clients worldwide.

"Receiving these numerous 'Best in Class' awards underscores State Street's track record of delivering superior strategy, execution and service to our customers," said Ross McLellan, senior managing director of State Street Global Markets. "Our experience, cost effectiveness and access to the broadest liquidity pools are what clients depend on for efficient portfolio transitions."
