State Street Global Advisors (SSgA), the investment management business
of State Street Corporation (NYSE: STT), today announced the appointment
of Catherine Powers as managing director and head of Fixed Income Alpha
Strategies for North America.
Powers joins SSgA from Standish Investment Management (“Standish”) where
she most recently led the insurance client strategies group with a focus
on customized fixed income solutions. In her 23 years at Standish, she
held numerous roles including fixed income trader, head of the
Structured Finance team and senior portfolio manager for actively
managed core and core plus portfolios.
Powers reports to Bill Street, global head of Fixed Income Alpha
Strategies. In her new role, she will manage SSgA’s fixed income alpha
strategies portfolio managers based in the US and Canada.

Powers earned her B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross and holds a
CFA designation.
SSgA also announced that Sandeep Bhatia will assume the role of head of
Fixed Income Alpha Strategies for Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
Bhatia, who was most recently a senior portfolio manager specializing in
credit markets, joined SSgA in 2010 from UBS Global Asset Management,
where he spent fourteen years as a portfolio manager.
He will also report to Street, and will oversee the Fixed Income Alpha
Strategies portfolio managers based in the UK and Europe.
“Sandeep has deep experience in the credit markets having managed
investment grade, high yield, structured credit and credit derivative
strategies,” said Street. “We’re pleased to expand his management role
as we continue to strengthen our fixed income capabilities.”
Bhatia graduated from the University College London, where he earned a
BSc (Hons) Economics, and Warwick University, where he earned a
post-graduate degree in Economics and Finance.
